The Luther women's tennis team lost to Cornell College 5-2 and Grinnell College 6-1 on Saturday. The Norse are now 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the Midwest Conference.
Cornell 5, Luther 2 - Box Score
Luther won at no. 3 doubles where Julianna Mascardo and Ale Villanueva defeated Tansy Graves and Jenna Benkufsky 6-2. However, the Rams had a 1-0 lead going into singles matches and went on to win four of the six matches. The Norse won at no. 3 singes with Villanueva defeated Graves (6-4, 2-2, opponent retired) and at no. 5 where Avery Schifsky-Seguin beat Annika Dox (7-6 (7-3), 6-1).
Grinnell 6, Luther 1 - Box Score
Luther won the doubles point with wins at no. 1 and no. 2 doubles. Allie Christensen and Lena Lichau beat Chavan and Surpless at no. 1 (6-3) and Schifsky-Seguin and Liselot van Den Broek took down Tom and Groundwater (6-4). From there the Pioneers won every match in singles. Jarlyne Felix was the only Luther player to win a set against Margot Groundwater at no. 6. Felix won the second set 6-4.
Next for the Norse is the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College which begins on Friday, Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
