WAVERLY, Iowa – The no. 3 seed Luther College softball team saw their season come to an end in the opening round of their final American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament falling to no. 6 seed Coe College 8-4. The Norse end their time in the A-R-C as the only team to make the tournament every year since it began in 2006.
No. 6 seed Coe, broke open the game in the third inning scoring four runs on four hits (4-0). Later in the bottom of the sixth, with two runners on and one out
Madi Elwood hit a home run to right center field pulling the Norse within on. Two batters later
Chloe Wagner launched a solo home run over the left field fence to tie the game 4-4 with one inning remaining.
In the seventh, the Kohawks tacked on another four runs on a single and a three-run home run. Luther went down in order giving Coe the victory. The Norse conclude the season with a record of 22-16 overall and 10-6 in the A-R-C.
Alexa Stevermer pitched 3.1 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits and gets the loss finishing the year 13-9 in the circle.
Isabelle Staton also pitched in the game for 3.2 innings allowing one run on four hits.
Coe is now 24-15 overall and 8-8 in conference play and will play no. 2 seed Simpson College on Saturday, May 9.
The season was highlighted by the most stolen bases in a single season with 62 and the hit by pitch record with 47.
Madi Urfer now holds the single season school record for being hit by pitch with 18.
Next season Luther will compete in the Midwest Conference.
