The Luther College baseball team won the outright American Rivers Conference championship after sweeping Simpson College this afternoon 11-6, 13-3 (7). The conference title was the first for the Norse under the direction of Head Coach
Bryan Nikkel and 14th in school history as a member of the Iowa Conference/American Rivers Conference. During today's double header, the Norse tallied 24 runs on 22 hits that included six home runs.
Luther will also be the No. 1 seed for the A-R-C six team tournament that will be held May 7-9 in Cedar Rapis, Iowa at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
In game one with the score tied 5-5 after seven, the Norse exploded for six runs in the eighth to secure the win and the outright league title.
Noah Kindem led the team with four rbi, while
Zach Gwost was credited with three and
Ike Swanson,
Gavin Scurr and
Tyrus Werner all had one. Swanson and Kindem hit back-to-back home runs in the first, Werner hit a solo shot in the seventh, and Gwost hit and three-run home run in the eighth.
CJ Boudreaux (3-0) was credited with the win. He pitched the final inning and a third, allowed one run on one hit, walked one and struck out two. Brody Van Berg got the start and went 4.1 innings, allowed five runs on 10 hits, walked one and struck out six.
Sam Amundson was in the middle working 3.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and struck out two.

In game two, the Norse tallied 13 runs on 13 hits and finished this game in the seventh frame. Gwost hit two home runs, a two-run bomb to right field in the first and a two-run home run to right in the sixth. He ended the game 3-for-4 with 6 rbi. Scurr had two rbi, while Kindem,
Xavier Millan,
Hayden Torgerson and
Tyrus Werner were all credited with one.
Charles Running (6-1) was credited with the win. Running allowed three runs on eight hits, walked and struck out four in six innings of work.
