DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther women's basketball team lost to Wartburg 68-63. The Norse were leading 54-49 at the end of the third quarter but were outscored 19-9 in the final frame.
Natalie Beaver rallied the crowd with 16 seconds remaining just down by three (63-66) but a pair of free throws for the Knights sealed the game. The contest featured eight lead changes and five times the score was tied. Luther is now 10-9 overall and 6-4 in the American Rivers Conference.
Haylie Strum became the 16
th player in program history to cross the 1,000 point milestone. It happened at the free throw line early in the fourth quarter. She got a standing ovation from the crowd. Strum led the team with 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Natalie Beaver scored 14 points followed by
Lexi Thomas with 12.
Both teams were nearly even up when it came to stats. Luther slightly edged Wartburg in field goal percentage at 40.8 percent to 40.0. The Norse were stronger beyond the arc at 42.3 percent. The Knights had more rebounds (39-31).
The Knights were led by Katie Boulanger with 21 points. Wartburg is 13-6 overall and 9-1 in conference.
The game marked the final time the two would meet in the regular season as conference opponents.
