Luther Wrestling Head Coach Dave Mitchell Records 350th Career Victory

Luther College head wrestling coach Dave Mitchell, recorded his 350th career dual meet victory when the Norse defeated Simpson College 44-6 during the American Rivers Conference Duals held in Lincoln, Neb. 

Coach Mitchell, who is in the midst of his 30th year at the helm of the program, has led the Norse to a dual meet record of 10-7, with three dual meets remaining on the 2025-26 schedule. Following the victory over Simpson, his career record is 350-185-6.

In the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III national poll released January 23, the Norse are ranked No. 12 in Dual Meet competition and No. 11 in Tournament competition. 

Alongside coach Mitchell during his entire tenure has been assistant coach Jeff O'Gara, and for the past 17 years, assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Billy Huebner

Mitchell is Luther's longest tenured head coach and the school's all-time leader for career wins. He was named NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2004 and was inducted into the NWCA Division III Hall of Fame in 2010.

Mitchell has led the Norse to seven top-five finishes at the NCAA III National Championships, finishing 3rd (2016, 2005, 2004), 5th (2003) and 4th (2001, 2007). He has coached 64 All-Americans, 9 national champions, 6 national runner-ups, 74 Scholar All-Americans, 3 NCAA Postgraduate Scholars, 5 CoSIDA Scholar All-Americans and 2 American Rivers Conference Male Scholar Athletes of the Year.
