WAVERLY, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team was defeated by the no. 8 nationally ranked Wartburg Knights 77-56 in the American Rivers Conference Tournament semifinal. The Knights had the lead for all but the first 35 seconds of the game. The only quarter the Norse outscored the Knights was the final frame (23-17). Luther finishes the season with an overall record of 18-9.
Haylie Strum led the team with 27 points. The rebounds leader was
Natalie Beaver with seven.
The Knights shot 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field compared to 39.2 percent (20-51) from the Norse. Wartburg also scored 58 points in the paint and both teams scored 26 points off turnovers.
The Knights offense was led by Sara Faber with 26 points and Lauren Woeste chipped in 20. Wartburg is now 24-2 overall and advances to the championship on Saturday, March 1, where they will face no. 2 seed Coe.
Kate Hosking is now sixth all-time in career blocks with 97.
Kailey Jones finishes her career with 1,399 points and 1,144 rebounds and became the first 1,000 / 1,000 player in school history. This was also the final game for
Kenlin Schmitt and
Kayla Will.
