WASECA, Minn. - The Luther men's cross country team won the team title at the Coach Finanger Invitational with 31 points out of six teams. Six Norse runners were in the top-10 including
Michel Heinrich,
Jacob Bruns, Christian Monotover,
Jalen Taha,
Philip Dahlen and
Logan Thompson.
The top-seven for the Norse featured Heinrich (3rd - 3 pts - 12:30.4), Bruns (5th - 5 pts - 12:42.9), Montover (6th - 6 pts - 12:51.1), Taha (8th - 8 pts - 12:54.6), Dahlen (9th - 9 pts - 12:55.4), Thompson (10th - 12:55.5), and
Matthew Binsfeld (13th - 12:59.8).
Also honored in the top-15 awards was Binsfeld,
Kurt Lebakken and
Johnny Fox.
Luther won the meet followed by Gustavus Adolphus, Martin Luther, Augsburg, Crown, and Minnesota Morris. A total of 88 runners ran in the contest.
This year team head coaches picked a male and female athlete from their teams to earn the Coach Finanger Spirit award. Awardees should have demonstrated outstanding character both on and off the field, using their talents for special purposes, and their passion and dedication for the betterment of others.
Johnny Fox was the men's team recipient of the award.
Up next Luther will compete at the George Oja Invitational hosted by Linfield University (OR) on Saturday, Oct. 18. The race begins at 10 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. CT. in Independence, Ore. at Oak Knoll Golf Course.
