INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Luther softball team dropped two games to Simpson in the final games of the regular season on Saturday. The Norse fell 4-3 and then 9-0 in five innings. With the loss Luther is now 27-13 overall and finish 9-7 in the American Rivers Conference.
Game 1: Luther 3, Simpson 4
Anna Forari hit a solo home run over the left field fence for a quick 1-0 advantage for the Norse. The Strom responded in the bottom half of the inning tying the game at one. The following inning
Delaney Martinez-Wilson doubled and
Madi Urfer reached on an error giving Martinez-Wilson enough time to come around home. Luther took back the lead 2-1. Then in the third, lead-off batter
Raven Allen launched a solo home run.
Simpson nabbed a run back in the fourth cutting the Luther lead down to one. The Storm took their first lead of the day in the fifth scoring two runs as they moved out in front 4-3. The Norse tried to come back but the Storm held on for the win. Forari was 2-4 with one run, one RBI.
Olivia Engler recorded six strikeouts.
Game 2: Luther 0, Simpson 9 (5 innings)
The Storm scored runs in every inning with four in the first, three in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth. Simpson also outhit Luther 10-5.
Ken Vavrichek was 2-3.
Morgan Stromberg made her first appearance in the circle.
Simpson is now 9-7 in the A-R-C and 26-12 overall.
