Luther is hosting league leading Coe College for the final three-game series of the regular season this weekend. This afternoon, Coe won game one 13-6 and the Norse responded with a 6-3 victory on the nightcap. With the splt, Luther is now 14-9 in the A-R-C, 25-14 overall.
Gane One: Coe 13, Luther 6
The Kohawks produced 16 hits and scored multiple runs in five innings en route to the victory. Lead-off batter Mitchell Eckardt, catcher Ryan Thoreson and left fielder Creighton Kreshel led the Kohawk attack with three rbi each. Echkart had four hits, including a first inning home run, while both Thoreson and Kreshel tallied three hits.
After Coe scored a run in the first,
Noah Kindem gave Luther its only lead thanks to a two-run home run. In the eighth, Kindem hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot to right field, and finished the game 2-for-4 with five rbi.
Mark Prince was the only other Norse to produce a multiple hit game. He was 2-for-5 and scored once.
Game Two: Luther 6, Coe 3
In the nightcap, Luther scored twice in the second, three times in the fourth and once in the seventh to secure the split. The Kohawks scored three in the third and one in the fifth.
Noah Pinette led a Norse attack that produced 11 hits, going 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Pinette drove in a run in the second and two in the fourth, both with doubles.
Cullen Stamp, who was 3-for-4, hit a solo shot to left field in the fourth as well.
Gavin Scurr and
Joshua Matanich were also credited with an rbi.
Blake Jondle (2-3) was credited with the victory on the mound in relief. Jondle took over for
Ryan Manternach midway through the fifth. Jondle pitched five innings, did not allow a run, walked three and struck out four.
Up Next: These two teams will complete the series tomorrow afternoon. This game was originally scheduled to start at 1 p.m., but has been moved to a 3:30 p.m. start, due to the forecast of rain during the mid-morning hours.
