WAVERLY, Iowa - The Luther softball team split with Wartburg in a midweek series. The Knights walked off the first game 3-2 but the Norse would claim victory in the second game by a final score of 3-1 in eight innings. The Norse currently sit in fourth in the American Rivers Conference standings at 9-5 with one final series of the regular season at Simpson on Saturday. Luther is 27-11 overall.
Game 1: Luther 2, Wartburg 3
Wartburg took an early 1-0 lead after the first but the Norse would tie the game with a double from
Madi Urfer RBI double in the sixth. In the top of the seventh,
Riley Sauser hit an RBI single as Luther grabbed its first lead of the day. The Knights responded with two runs on two hits to win the game 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning.
Abby Spore and Sauser were 2-4 at the plate.
Game 2: Luther 3, Wartburg 1 (8 innings)
After two scoreless innings,
Abby Spore hit an RBI double for a 1-0 advantage. Wartburg tied the game at one in the fourth. The two teams battled through the regular scheduled seven innings forcing extras. In the eighth, Luther had an opportunity with the bases loaded and no outs.
Raven Allen ripped an RBI single through to reclaim the lead for the first time since the third. The Norse wanted more and they would get another run thanks to and RBI signle from
Delaney Martinez-Wilson. Wartburg wanted a repeat of the last game but this time the Luther defense shutdown the Knights 3-1.
Olivia Engler gave up five hits, one run, two walks and had three strikeouts as she earned her 19th win in the circle.

Luther travels to Simpson on Saturday, May 4 for the final series of the regular season. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 1 p.m. in Indianola, Iowa.
