Norse Split With Coe In Home Finale

DECORAH, Iowa - In the final home game of the regular season the Luther softball team split with (RV) Coe on Saturday. The Norse took game one 3-1 before falling 8-7 in the second. Luther also honored its senior class of Abby Spore and Lara Welter. The Norse are now 26-10 overall and 8-4 in the American Rivers Conference.

Game 1: Luther 3, Coe 1
Coe was on the board first taking an early one-run lead in the first. Then in the fourth Ken Vavrichek led off the inning with a single and quickly stole second moving to scoring position. Riley Sauser hit a two-run home run out to left center field to overtaking the lead for the first time. With two outs Chloe Wagner followed with a solo home run that lined over the left field fence. Olivia Engler only faced 11 batters over the next three innings shutting down a come back from Coe.

Vavrichek was 2-3 and Sauser led the team with two RBI. This was the first home run of the season for Sauser. Engler picked up her 18th win in the circle. She gave up one run, two hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Game 2: Luther 7, Coe 8
The Kohawks were up by five after the top of the second. In the bottom half of the inning, Delaney Martinez-Wilson hit the RBI single that scored the first run for the Norse. She advanced to third on the play on a throwing error. That gave a chance for Madi Urfer to earn an RBI after her ground out gave Martinez-Wilson enough time to scamper home.

Then in the fourth Coe added two more runs to their total bringing the score to 7-2. Luther once again responded with five runs on four hits. Raven Allen, Martinez-Wilson, Teagan Hansen, Abby Spore all had hits that led to RBI. While Vavrichek and Sauser were walked earning RBI. The Norse had knotted the game at seven.

Coe scored a lone run in the fifth reclaiming the lead which was all the needed even as Ltuher threatened in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on.

Anna Forari, Abby Spore and Martinez-Wilson went 2-4 at the plate.
