DECOARH, Iowa - The Luther softball team split with no. 18 Central on Tuesday both games were concluded in five innings. The Norse won game one 14-4 as
Madi Urfer hit a grand slam in the second inning while
Chloe Wagner hit a three-run home run in the third. The second game the Dutch defeated the Norse 10-0. Luther is now 25-9 overall and 7-3 in the American Rivers Conference.
Game 1: Luther 14, #18 Central 4 (5 innings)
The Norse couldn't have asked for a better start to the first game as
Evie Strigel scampered home on the passed ball going up early 1-0 in the first.
Delaney Martinez-Wilson continued the inning with a two RBI single but the Norse offense was just getting started. In the second,
Abby Spore walked with the bases loaded earning an RBI.
Riley Sauser followed with a sac fly for an RBI. With the bases loaded Urfer hit a grand slam for her first home run of her career as Luther leaped to a 10-0 lead on the 18th-ranked Dutch.
In the third another four runs were tallied by the Norse on just three hits including a home run from
Chloe Wagner. Although Central would add a run in the fourth and recorded three in the fifth the Luther defense shutdown the rally by the Dutch.
Raven Allen was 2-2 with three runs and two RBI. Olivia Enlger got the win in the circle giving up just two hits, four runs, five walks and two strikeouts.
Game 2: Luther 0, #18 Central 10 (5 innings)
The Dutch were in control of the second game from start to finish. Central scored three early in the first. They would add four in the third and three in the fifth for a 10-0 lead over the Norse. The Norse offense couldn't get much going after getting just four hits total in the game along with five errors.
