ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Luther softball team split with Northwestern (MN) in a midweek non-conference series. The Norse won the first game 3-1 as head coach
Renae Hartl collected her 700th career victory at the helm. The Eagles took game two 11-5. Luther is now 20-8 overall and 4-2 in the American Rivers Conference.
Game 1: Luther 3, Northwestern (MN) 1
In the third
Madi Urfer reached on the Eagle error advancing over to second.
Teagan Hansen followed also reaching on a error as Urfer raced home scoring the first run. That would be all the Norse would drive in until the fourth. The Norse scored two runs with a sac fly RBI from
Anna Forari and
Delaney Martinez-Wilson grounded to third for another run.
In the fifth Northwestern got a run back but the Luther defense held on for the 3-1 victory. Olivia Enlger knocked down the first twelve batters she faced. She gave up one run, two hits and recorded 10 strikeouts matching her career high.
Raven Allen was 2-3 with one stolen base.
Game 2: Luther 5, Northwestern (MN) 11
Leading off for the Norse was Allen who launched a solo home run over the left field fence for an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles claimed their first lead of the day answering with four runs in the bottom half of the first.
In the second, with runners in on second and third
Jaydan Clayton reached on a error and advanced to second earning an RBI. A two RBI double from Hansen tied the game at four. She was followed by Allen who got her second hit of the game with a single up the middle for an RBI. Luther was back out in front 5-4.
Northwestern added four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to win the game 11-5. Allen was had two RBI and led the team with two hits including her first home run of her career. Hansen also had two RBI and one double.

Luther has a booked weekend traveling to Buena Vista on Saturday, April 20 for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. in Storm Lake, Iowa. Followed by a non-conference series back at home on Sunday, April 21 against Cornell College. First pitch will be at 1 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa at Betty A. Hoff field.
