Luther Sweeps Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Luther softball team swept Illinois College 11-0 (six inn.) and 13-0 (five inn.) on Saturday. The Norse offense continues to stay hot as they recorded 24 hits and the defense held the Lady Blues scoreless. Overall, Luther is now 15-5 and finish the month of March with a 15-3 record. 

Game 1: Luther 11, Illinois College 0 (6 inn.)
A double from Riley Sauser scored the first two runs of the series for the Norse in the first. 

Luther held a 2-0 lead going into the fifth. Then the Norse tacked on five more runs on four hits. Abby Spore, Raven Allen, and Teagan Hansen all were credited with RBI. 

The Norse ended it in the sixth driving in four more runs with singles from Chloe Wagner and Madi Urfer. Hansen and Delaney Martinez-Wilson also helped add runs to the total. 

Allen went 3-4 at the plate with two runs and three RBI. Olivia Engler and Cyrah Rasmussen struck out six in 23 batters faced. Engler gave up one hit. 

Game 2: Luther 13, Illinois College 0 (5 inn.)
Luther was busy in the first as they piled on seven runs in the first as they sent 11 batters to the plate. Spore, Suser, Martinez-Wilson, Urfer, Hansen, Forari, Vavrichek all earned RBI for a quick 7-0 advantage. 

In the second, Martinez-Wilson singled into left field driving in another run for the Norse. 

Three more runs came in on three hits. Singles from Vavrichek and Spore loaded the bases then on the wild pitch Evie Strigel scampered home. A little later Chloe Wagner hit a two RBI single into center field bringing the score to 11-0 in favor of Luther. 

The final two runs were scored in the fourth. Forari reached on the fielder's choice earning an RBI and Spore reached on the error for an RBI. The Norse win streak improves to six for the longest streak this season.

Martinez-Wilson and Spore were 2-4 with one run and two RBI each. Engler pitched a complete game giving up three hits, four walks and two strikeouts.

The Norse open the American Rivers Conference season at home against Loras on Wednesday, April 3. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Betty A. Hoff Field.
