Norse Takedown Fighting Scots

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Luther softball team knocked down Monmouth College 10-5 in five innings and 8-2 to extend their win streak to four. Anna Forari hit her second home run of the season in game one. In the circle Olivia Engler and Cyrah Rasmussen  picked up wins as the Norse are now 13-5 overall. In the doubleheader Luther recorded 25 hits. 

Game 1: Luther 10, Monmouth 0 (5 inn.)
The Norse started their first five run inning in the top of the second. With two outs and runners on second and third Madi Urfer hit the RBI single that drove in two runs. Allison Martinez followed with a single putting runners on the corners. A three-run home run by Forari gave Luther a 5-0 lead. 

Luther led off the fifth with four straight hits from Ken Vavrichek, Abby Spore, Riley Sauser, and Raven Allen. Spore and Allen earned RBI driving in another three runs. Later Urfer singled through the right side for a 10-0 Norse advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, Engler gave up one hit and Izzy Staton came in to pitch in relief. Staton and the defense ended the game on a double play. 

Urfer was 2-3 with four RBI and one run. Engler recorded seven strikeouts and is now 7-3 overall. 

Game 2: Luther 8, Monmouth 2
Luther got on the board in their first at-bat. Sauser hit the sac fly that scored the first run for a quick 1-0 lead. However, the Fighting Scots tied it at one in the bottom of the first. As Monmouth continued to threaten Allen made an incredible sliding stop and throw to first to get out the inning without further damage. 

Chloe Wagner led off the top of the second with a double into center field. The Norse retook the lead off a double from Teagan Hansen who earned an RBI. With Hansen on third, Forari reached on an error allowing another run to come home for a 3-1 lead. 

Later in the fifth, Luther tacked on one run with Sauser's RBI single into center for her second RBI of the game. The Fighting Scots also added another run but the Norse were still ahead 4-2. 

The Norse scored for a final time in the sixth adding four runs off of five hits. Vavrichek, Spore hit RBI singles while Sauser earned two RBI for her double for an 8-2 victory. 

Sauser went 2-3 and led the team with four RBI. Vavrichek, Wagner, and Hansen were 2-4. Staton, Rasmussen, and Engler combined for seven strikeouts, five hits, and two runs with two earned.

Luther is back in action on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader against Illinois College. First pitch is at 12 p.m. in Jacksonville, Ill.
