CLERMONT, Fla. - The Luther softball team defeated Southern Virginia University 13-10 and fell to Millikin 6-5 on Thursday. The Norse are 9-5 overall.
Game 1: Luther 13, Southern Virginia University 10 (6 inn.)
After three quick outs to start the game Luther scored three runs in their first at-bat. The Norse loaded the bases after a single from
Abby Spore.
Raven Allen followed up with a single followed by errors from the Knights allowing two runs to score.
Riley Sauser also earned and RBI for bringing the score to 3-0.
The Knights went to work racking up five runs.
Anna Forari's RBI single allowed the Norse to pull within one after two complete.
In the bottom of the third, Luther scored two runs of three hits.
Madi Urfer hit a 2 RBI single as the Norse were back in front by a score of 6-5.
Southern Virginia tallied two runs in the fourth followed by a lone run for Luther tying the game at 7. Then in the fifth the Knights added another to their total. The Norse would add six runs on six hits as Forari, Allen and Sauser were credited with RBI.
In the sixth, the Knights threatened down by three and one out but the
Olivia Engler came to pitch in relief of
Cyrah Rasmussen. She forced the two batters to hit into a force out and ground out to earn the save.
Rasmussen pitched 5.1 innings allowing 10 hits and 10 runs only three of which were earned.
Game 2: Luther 5, Millikin 6
The Norse quickly tacked on three runs in the top of the first. Spore's single into right center and an errant throw by Millikin allowed the first run to come in. Allen drove in two runs with her single down the right field line as Luther held a 3-0 advantage. That lead was short lived as The Big Blue scored two runs in the first and tied the game at three in the second.
Luther reclaimed the lead in the top of the third as Spore led off with a solo home run for her second of the season.
Millikin found themselves out in front again in the fourth after adding two more runs. The Big Blue also scored a run in the sixth as they held a 6-4 lead heading into the final frame.
The Norse comeback would come up just short as they could only get one run in the seventh. Sauser went 3-3 with one run and Spore went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.
