CLERMONT, Fla. - The Luther softball team extended its win streak to four with a shutout of Worcester State University 6-0 and a 10-4 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday.
Olivia Engler pitched all 14 innings and recorded 18 strikeouts with nine in each game. The Norse are now 8-4 overall.
Game 1: Luther 6, Worcester 0
The Norse were held scoreless until the top fo the third. With the bases loaded
Raven Allen was walked giving Luther a 1-0 lead. Then in the fifth
Ken Vavrichek stole second to move into scoring position.
Abby Spore's RBI double drove in the run for a 2-0 advantage. In the final frame Luther scored four runs on three hits. The the Norse rattled off three straight singles with one from
Riley Sauser, Allen and
Delaney Martinez-Wilson. Luther held the Lancers to just four batters in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 2: Luther 10, UWEC 4
In the bottom of the second Allen started the offense going with her first triple of the season. Martinez-Wilson,
Chloe Wagner,
Anna Forari, Spore, and Sauser helped drive the Norse advantage to 5-0 and were credited with RBI.
The following inning,
Teagan Hansen laid down the sac bunt that put
Madi Urfer into scoring position. Then Wagner followed up with a single through the right side putting runners on the corners. She took off and stole second giving time for Urfer to score.
The Blugolds cut the lead in half in the fifth but Luther answered with two more runs int he bottom of the inning. Runs were earned as Vavrichek was walked with the bases loaded and Spore hit a sac fly to bring the score to 8-3 in favor of the Norse.
Eau Claire wasn't going away just yet as they scored another run in the sixth. Wanger would record her fourth hit of the game earning two RBI for her single up the middle bringing the score to 10-8 through six complete.
Enlger struck out two fo the five batters faced in the top of the seventh as she picked up another victory in the circle bringing her record to 5-2. Wagner went 4-4 with two runs and three RBI.
