CLERMONT, Fla. - The Luther softball offense recorded 30 hits in the two victories on Monday. The Norse dominated Keuaka College 16-2 in five innings followed by a 7-4 win over Carleton. Overall Luther is now 6-4.
Game 1: Keuka 2, Luther 16 (5 inn.)
The Wolves added a run early in the first but the Norse rallied with a huge response. In the bottom of the second Luther scored 10 runs on 11 hits.
Riley Sauser,
Raven Allen,
Madi Urfer,
Alison Martinez,
Anna Forari,
Ken Vavrichek,
Abby Spore and
Jerrianne Dannenmueller recorded hits. Martinez hit the first triple of the season for the Norse.
Luther wasn't done scoring yet adding two more runs in the third as Sauser and Allen drove in runs on their ground outs. Keuka would get a run back in the top of the fourth but it wasn't going to be enough to chip into the Norse lead. In the bottom half of the inning with two on in scoring position
Breckin Geiser singled earning two RBI. Spore followed up with her first home run of the season which gave the Norse a 16-2 advantage.
The Norse defense knocked down the Wolves 1-2-3 to win the game in the fifth.
Cyrah Rasmussen and
Izzy Staton both pitched in the game.
Game 2: Luther 7, Carleton 4
In their first chance at bat Luther scored first. Forari led-off with a double followed by a single from Vavrichek. Both moved into scoring position for Spore who singled up through the gap up the middle for two RBI. However, that would be all the Norse would get in the inning.
After two compete scoreless innings, Carleton recorded a run in the fourth cutting the lead to one. The Knights continued to find success in the bottom of the fifth as they moved in front 3-2.
Luther responded in the top of the sixth scoring five runs on five hits.
Delaney Martinez-Wilson came in to pinch hit for the Norse. And she came up big with a single into centerfield allowing the tying run to come home. Forari reached on a fielder's choice earning and RBI. The Norse kept the momentum going as Vavrichek singled through the left side. Then Spore ripped a double into left center that allowed another two to score for a 7-3 lead.
Carleton nearly mounted a comeback as the go-ahead run at the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Allen handled a ground ball and tossed it to second to secure the final out to win the game.
Vavrichek was 3-3 while Spore led the team with four RBI.
Olivia Engler pitched another complete game. She gave up eight hits, four runs with three earned and tallied five strikeouts.

The Norse will take a day off before resuming action in the sunshine state on Wednesday, March 20. Luther will face Worcester State University at 9 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CT followed by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clarie at 1:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. in Clermont, Fla.
