DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther women's basketball team fell to Coe College 72-44 to start the new year. The Kohawks were in control wire to wire as they shot fifty percent from the field.
Jordan Rubie led the Norse with nine points. With the loss Luther is now 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the American Rivers Conference.
The Kohawks jumped ahead early to a 5-0 start but
Amelia Solum answered with five points of her own to tie the game at 7:11 in the first quater. Then Coe closed the first on a 12-0 run for a 19-7 advantage at 1:33. A jumper from
Chelin Isaacson slowed the momentum of the Kohawks. However, it was the visitors who were up 22-9 after one quarter of action.
In the second quarter the Norse slowly began to chip away at the Kohawk lead. Later,
Kate Hosking striped it away forcing the turnover that set up
Lizzie Kauls with the three pointer cutting the lead to eight with 2:47 until halftime. Coe took a 34-22 lead into halftime.
Out of the break Luther continued to work down the lead by Coe. Midway through the third
Haylie Strum hit a jump shot that put the Norse down by nine at 31-49 with 4:33 on the clock. The Kohawks once again pushed their advantage back to 14 by the of the quarter leading 50-36.
In the final quarter of action the Kohawks shot 66.7% from the field, 50% from the arc and 33.3% from the line to defeat the Norse 72-44.
Luther edged Coe beyond the arc shooting 30.8% to 25%.
