DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther men's soccer team tied 1-1 with the Viterbo V-Hawks. It was the first matchup between the two teams since 2010.
Bryan Islas-Aguirre scored his first collegiate goal in a Norse uniform in the 34
th minute.
In the first half Luther had several good opportunities right in the opening 15 minutes of the game. But either they were called offside, shots were missed or saved by the Viterbo defense. Nonetheless the Norse pressed on.
The Norse finally found way through the V-Hawks defense with
Enzo Mitidieri sliding it through to
Bryan Islas-Aguirre who scored with a shot low to the right in the 34
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. This was Islas-Aguirre's first career goal as a Norse and first of the season.
The clock ticked on but the intensity on the field was just ramping up but it was Luther who had the one goal advantage at the half.
That intensity from the first half never let up and the game clock often stopped for a large period of time while things got situated on the field. The V-Hawks would find the equalizer off a header that was out of reach for the Norse goalie tying the game at 1-1.
Neither team could break the deadlock by the time the final whistle blew for a 1-1 draw.
