DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther Baseball team walked off game one of the doubleheader against Simpson by a score of 2-1. Then in game two the Norse found the bats late in the game to get the 6-1 win for another conference sweep to improve to 10-0 in A-R-C play and 15-8 overall.
GAME 1: Norse (2), Storm (1)
It was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings of action.
Nolan Klocke (Hayfield, Minn. / Hayfield) struck down five batters. While the Storm forced the Norse batters into flyouts. Simpson got the first hit of the game in the top of the fourth but Luther was able to get on the board in the bottom half of the inning.
After
Noah Sebben (Moline, Ill. / Moline) was on after being hit by a pitch,
Charlie Rubendall (Minneapolis, Minn. / DeLaSalle) pushed him to second via a sac bunt.
Aiden Michna (Moline, Ill. / Moline) doubled into left field to score Sebben. That's all the Norse would get but it was just enough to break open the deadlock.
Then in the top of the seventh Simpson brought the tying run across after errors by Luther got the runner over to third. Which was followed by a double from the Storm to make it a 1-1 game. With the game still tied going into the ninth the Norse were in a jam with runners on first and second with one out.
CJ Boudreaux (Humble, Texas / Atascocita) forced the hitter to hit into a 6-4-3 double play giving the Norse a chance to walk it off.
Rubendall hit a lead off single to get on base which was followed by another single from Michna. With one out
Gabe Atkins (Castle Pines, Colo. / Rock Canyon) hit a shallow infield ball which was misfielded by the Storm. Giving Rubendall the chance to bolt on home for the walk off win 2-1. Boudreaux gets his second win of the season.
GAME 2: Norse (6), Storm (1)
Much like how the day started, the first run came in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The Norse getting the go ahead run as
Mark Prince (Encinitas, Calif. / La Costa Canyon) hit a single into left field which gave Atkins plenty of time to race home from second. That would be all Luther would score but it was a start.
Simpson tied the game in the top of the sixth off a single. But the Norse answered with a lead off single from Michna. Then Atkins launched one deep into left field near the fence for an RBI double scoring to take back the lead. After the Storm pitching change Atkins stole third.
Peyton Lindmark was walked and in a failed pick off attempt Atkins took advantage of the error scoring another Norse run.
Then in the seventh Luther had the bases loaded and walks issued by the Storm pitcher gave the home team another run. The Norse would add two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with runners on first and second. Sebben earned 2 RBIs for his double that brought home the two runners for a 6-1 score.
Josh Stratton (Plainfield, Ill. / Central) got the win on the mound for the Norse in the 6-1 victory for another conference sweep.

Gabe Atkins (Castle Pines, Colo. / Rock Canyon) had the walk off hit to help the Norse win 2-1 in game one for his first hit of the game. In game two he had two hits, two RBIs.

Nick Dufoe (Adel, Iowa / Adel-DeSoto-Minburn) and
Josh Stratton (Plainfield, Ill. / Central) combined for 14 strikeouts in five and four innings of work.
UP NEXT
Luther will have a few days off before traveling to Waverly, Iowa on Tuesday, April 11th for the final game of the series against Wartburg.
