Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Norse Hang on to Defeat UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, WIS. – After a scoreless first half Luther found the back of the net twice in the second half with goals from Javier Pastor Valls (Mutxamel, Spain. This Kiski School (PA) and Ramzi Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest). The Warhawks would cut the lead to just one with five minutes of regulation remaining but the Norse stayed steady to win 2 to 1.

SECOND HALF GOALS

The Luther offense was once again at the forefront. And unlike every other game this season this game was the first time that the Norse hadn't scored in the first half.  Whitewater wasn't much of threat in the half as the defense kept them at bay. Thus, it was a 0 to 0 draw at halftime.

Coming out of the break Luther knew they needed to get on the board. But no one would have guess, it would come just seven seconds after kicking off. Will Overberg (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) passed it to a wide-open Javier Pastor Valls (Mutxamel, Spain/The Kiski School (PA) who dribbled it before timing his shot. His left footed strike couldn't have been placed any better going high into the top left corner leaving the Warhawk goalkeeper with no chance. Then later off the Norse corner kick Whitewater didn't clear it out of the box well. Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando) was there to clean it up feeding it to Ramzi Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) who slotted it low for another Norse goal in the 67th minute. However, the Warhawks fought hard during the final ten minutes of the game. In the 85th Whitewater's Jalen Holley waited patiently in the 6-yard box putting the ball right past Jack Bell (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial). Luther defense held on for the slim victory over the Warhawks.
