Tufts University, ranked No. 10 on the Division III National Fastpitch Coaches Association released March 15, produced five of its seven hits in two innings and defeated Luther 4-1 this morning in Clermont, Fla.,
Luther struck first scoring its lone run in the top of the fourth.
Kyal Heydt led off with a single.
Alyssa Blankenship was called into the lineup as a pinch runner and scored three following an
Abby Spore two-out single. Spore and
Sydney Schultz both finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Tufts responded with a run in the bottom have of the fourth thanks to two singles and a Luther error. In the fifth, the Jumbos produced four hits in a row that led to three runs.
Kendra Cooper went the distance in the circle. Cooper walked two and struck out nine.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 5-4. Tufts improved to 3-0.
Luther will wrap up today's action with a game against Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 1:30 p.m. EST.
