Luther and St. Olaf faced each other for today's first game in the Rochester Dome. It was a good old fashion pitchers dual for five innings, before the Norse were able to score the only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Both teams had opportunities to put runs on the board earlier but failed. In the bottom of the fifth, Luther had and bases loaded with two outs and Ole pitcher Carly Dammann, got out of the jam with a fly ball to right field.
In the top of the sixth, the Oles had runners on second and third with no outs. Norse third baseman Kyle Heydt made back-to-back plays on hard hit ground balls, throwing both batters outs at first base, while holding the Oles runner on third. These plays were followed with an unassisted ground ball out by
Emily Versnik at first, that got the Norse out of the jam.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Anna Forari met Oles relief pitcher Jaelyn Orth with a blast that was ruled a ground rule double.
Katie Brennan pinch ran for Forari and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Belle Berg drove in Brennan with a single to left field that proved to be the game winner.
Kendra Cooper went the distance in the circle and allowed no runs on three hits. She walked one and struck out three.
The win increased Luther's overall record to 3-2, while St. Olaf fell to 3-5.
