The Luther softball team picked up its first win of the season, an 8-0 decision over Cornell College (IA) in six innings. The Norse scored two in the second, one in the fifth and closed the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Belle Berg doubled down the left field line that drove in three runs that secured the victory.
Kendra Cooper faced 22 batters and struck out 14. At one point she fanned seven in a row.
Berg finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Sydney Schultz drove in the first two runs of the game with a single up the middle that scored
Emily Fell and
Alyssa Blankenship.
Kyal Heydt drove in a run with a double to center field in the fifth, and
Morgan Hogenson drove in a run with a single to left field in the sixth.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 2-1. Cornell fell to 0-2.
Luther wraps up today's first day in the Rochester Dome with a game against Macalester College.
