The Luther College softball team opened its 2022 campaign at the Bethany Lutheran University Kwik Trip Invitational, held at the Mankato Dome on the campus of Minnesota State-Mankato. The Norse faced St. Catherine University in the first of two games and were defeated by the Wildcats 7-4 in eight innings.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, St. Kate's took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Luther answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the score remained the same after seven complete.

During dome games, extra innings are decided with the international tie-breaker, where each team begins the inning with a runner on second and no outs.

St. Kate's produced five runs on five hits and Luther was only able to score two runs on two hits in the eighth frame.

Morgan Hogenson and Sydney Schultz were both 2-for-4. Hogenson had one rbi and Schultz had two. Kyal Heydt also drove in a run going 1-for-4 at the plate.
