The men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference schedule at Maranatha Baptist University, located in Watertown, Wis. Following a 28-28 halftime lead, the Norse exploded for 47 points in the second half and secured a 75-61 victory.
The Norse pounced on the Sabercats early thanks to two treys by
Matthew Franzen and one by Mike Shed that gave them a nine-point lead five minutes into the second half. Luther connected on 8-of-17 three-pointers in the second frame and led by as many as 21 points with just over five minutes left in the game.
Ben Gill led the Norse attack with a double-double. Bill had 14 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.
Aidan Bailey and
Mat Rohden were next with 12 points each and Franzen finished with 11.
The Sabercats were led by Josh Davis who had 25 points. Davis missed just two shots the entire evening that included a 7-of-9 performance from behind the three-point line.
The win snapped a four-game skid for the Norse who are now 8-16 overall. Maranatha fell to 5-19.
Luther will finish its season this Saturday, Feb. 19, when it travels to the University of Dubuque. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
