DECORAH, IOWA – The Norse advance to the A-R-C Championship with a 4-1 victory over the Storm.
Will Overberg (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) had an assist and two goals to propel to their first championship appearance since 2019.
THE WEATHER NEVER BOTHERED US
On a beautiful and unseasonably warm night in Decorah it was a perfect night for playoff soccer. The Norse came into the game looking to avenge a 2-2 draw from earlier in the season and they did just that. Just nearly three minutes in
Will Overberg (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) heel passed it to none other than
Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando) to get the Norse on the board early. Later Luther came crashing in on the far side of the field
Luis Figueroa (San Juan, Puerto Rico/High Mowing School) and
Faydane Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) feed the ball into the feet of
Will Overberg who put it away in the 19
th minute. Nine minutes later it was
Will Overberg scoring again as he waited for it on the far post. He was assisted by
Faydane Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) and
Marcos Vila (Madrid, Spain/I.E.S San Fernando). The Norse had a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second half Simpson came out with more fight. As Alan Imamovic took advantage of a defensive miscue giving the Strom some life in the 49
th minute. The Norse would answer in the 61
st minute with
Marcos Vila slipping the pass to
Faydane Ouro-Akondo who put it in the opposite corner. The defensive back line for the Norse was tough to break all night as
Ramzi Ouro-Akondo (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), Raul Fernandez (Crevillent, Spain),
Hernan Manzanet (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/High Mowing School), Jose Gimez (Santiago, Chile/High Mowing School) kept Simpson at bay. Luther gets the 4-1 win and advances to the A-R-C Championship for the first time since 2019.
