The Luther wrestling team returned to action for the first time since Dec. 18. The Norse finished second at the Cliff Keen Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College this afternoon. Augsburg College won the team title with 186 points. Luther was second with 155 and host Cornell was third with 130.
Luther had 15 wrestlers place (top-8 finish) headlined by
Brier Babin (133) and
Donovan Corn (197) who were crowned champions. Babin was 3-0 this afternoon with all three of his victories coming over wrestlers from Augsburg College. He defeated Justsin Stauffacher (6-4 sudden victory); Kieler Carlson (7-0) in the semifinals; and Austin Gabbart (3-1) in the title match.
Corn was also 3-0 today. He defeated Richard Hunter of Loras by fall (1:38); Parker Venz of Augsburg by fall (2:41); and Bently Schwanebeck-Ost of Augsburg (5-2) in the championship bout.
Third place finishes were posted by
Ryan Cripe (141), Braedon Hendel (157) and
Logan Kennedy (285). All three were 4-1 with two falls for the afternoon. In the third place matches, Cripe defeated Keegan Schultchik of Cornell by fall (0:33), Hendel defeated Scott Burke of Loras (9-5), and Kennedy won by medical forfeit over ben Kawcynski of UW-La Crosse.
