Box Score Luther continued to rewrite the conference tournament record books, capturing a league best eighth title, after sweeping Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Norse won the nightcap of today's twin bill 6-5.
After jumping out to a 5-1 lead, the Prairie Wolves tied the game 5-5 thanks to a four-run fifth. Luther secured the victory scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Belle Berg started the sixth with a triple and then scored on a wild pitch.
During Luther's four-run second inning,
Sydney Schultz drove in a run with a her 20th double, setting a new single season school record for this category. Lisa Huinker held the record with 19 set in 2007.
The Norse pitching staff held the Prairie Wolves to six hits.
Abbey Gapinski pitched the first three innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Sam Thompson pitched one inning and allowed four runs on three hits.
Kendra Cooper (20-5) was handed the ball in the fifth in relief of Thompson. She shut the Prairie Wolves down, allowing just one hit in the final three innings and was credited with the win. Cooper finished the tournament with six wins.
Luther is now 31-14 and NWU fell to 16-21.
