Luther clinched its 30th conference championship after defeating Simpson College 7-2 in Indianola this morning. The victory gives the Norse a league record of 7-0 with one match remaining. That match will take place at Wartburg College on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Central entered today's A-R-C action with one loss and was defeated by Wartburg in Waverly by a final of 5-4. That loss gives Central a conference record of 6-2. Coe also has a record of 6-2.
The Norse had to battle from behind to secured the victory as they dropped two of three doubles matches.
Ana Olimpio and
Sofia Sackett defeated Donni Kinghorm and Kennedi Wright at No. 2 (8-0).
Luther swept singles winning all but one match in straight sets. Olimpio put the first singles point on the board defeating Kinghorn (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4.
Lexi Hastings defeated Wright at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).
Renata Martinez won at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0). Sackett secured the team victory with a (6-2, 6-0) win at No. 3 over Megan Grubb.
Natalia Smith won at No. 2 (7-5, 6-3) and
Shelby Cook secured the sweep with a three-set win over Anna Wanek (2-6, 6-3, 10-4).
Luther has now won 29 consecutive matches over A-R-C opponents dating back to Oct. 7, 2018.
