The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College senior Shelby Cook (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy) has been named the league's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Cook helped lead Luther to the title of the American Rivers Conference Automatic Qualifier Tournament this past weekend. The Norse defeated Loras College (5-0) in the semifinals and Coe College (5-0) in the championship match. The AQ Tournament title was the third in a row for the Norse and the ninth in school history.
Cook went 2-0 in both doubles and singles. In doubles, the senior played with Julia Moreno at No. 1 and the duo defeated Isabel Schwabe and Caroline Hutchinson of Loras (8-6) and Isabella Hoppenjans and Emma Lassen of Coe (8-6).
In singles, Cook defeated Caroline Hutchinson of Loras (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3 and Emma Lassen of Coe (6-0, 6-3) at No. 4.
This is Cook's seventh career Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honor (4/25/22, 10/13/20, 9/21/20, 9/23/19, 9/10/19, 4/8/19).
