The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College freshman Renata Martinez (Atizapan De Zaragoza, Mexico) has been named the league's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021. This is the first time she has been so honored.
This past weekend, Martinez posted a record of 5-0 en route to the Flight A single title of the A-R-C Individual Tournament. Her trip to the championship match included wins over Natalie Kaiser of Wartburg (6-0, 6-0); teammate Natalie Smith (6-4, 6-2); No. 4 seed Anna Wanek of Simpson (6-2, 6-4); No. 7 seed Bronwyn Metcalf of Central (6-1, 6-1) in the semifinals; and a three-set victory over teammate Shelby Cook (5-7, 7-5, 10-8) in the title match.
In Flight A doubles, Martinez and junior Lexi Hastings (Menomonie, Wis.) advanced to the championship match before dropping an (8-3) decision to Central's No. 4 seed duo of Maddie Hartley and Alyssa Lewton.
