The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College sophomore pitcher Sam Thompson (West Salem, Wis./West Salem) has been named the league's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 11, 2021. This is the first time she has been so honored during her career.
Thompson picked up two more wins this past week improving her season record to 7-0. She threw a complete game three-hit shutout (1-0) over No. 16 Wartburg on Monday, April 5, and followed that effort with a four-hit shutout (8-0 in five innings) over Buena Vista on Sunday, April 11. She also pitched the first two frames of game three of the BVU series that Luther won (16-0) in five innings. In three games she held the two opponents to 14 innings of scoreless softball.Â
In 52 innings of work this season, Thompson has posted an ERA of 1.48, allowing 11 earned runs, walking seven and striking out 27.
Luther improved to 18-9 for the year, 7-6 in the A-R-C.
