Myhre competed at the national level during his career as a student-athlete, swimming for the Hawkeyes from 2016 to 2020. An All-American in the pool, Myhre was a member of the program record 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams and qualified for the NCAA Championships as a sophomore in 2017-18. Myhre ranks fourth all-time in the 50 free, fifth all-time in the 100 free and was a 2020 Olympic Trials qualifier.

Following graduation, Myhre joined the St. Charles (Ill.) Swim Team as an assistant coach. In this role, he worked specifically with high school athletes at the senior level and planned practices for their specific strokes and events. Myhre was also responsible for leading dryland practices and strength and conditioning efforts.
