PELLA, Iowa - No. 2 seed Coe defeated No. 6 seed Luther 3-2 in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Semfinal. The two teams battled back and forth as the game featured two ties and two lead changes.
Anna Forari was the only Norse batter credited with an RBI. Luther finishes the season with a 28-14 overall record and 9-7 in the A-R-C.
After the Kohawks went up by one in the third, Luther tied the game in the top of the fourth. With two outs
Chloe Wagner hit a single that should have ended the inning but the Kohawks made a costly error on the throw giving
Riley Sauser enough time to cross home plate. Coe would regain a 2-1 advantage in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fifth a RBI double into left center field from
Anna Forari tied the game for the second time at 2-2 as
Evie Strigel rounded for home. The Kohawks scored one run in the sixth.
Luther had one final chance in the seventh to keep the game alive.
Madi Urfer led off with a single up the middle and
Teagan Hansen pushed her to second on the sac bunt. The Norse now had the tying run at second and the go ahead at the plate but the Kohawks held on to secure a 3-2 win.
The defense made big plays with all three outfielders Wagner,
Ken Vavrichek and Hansen making diving catches in the game. Sauser also made a lunging grab at a line drive and dove back to first to make a double play in the fifth.
Vavrichek also set the single season record for walks with 37 this season. The previous record was set by Erin Michael with 34 in 2007.
