Luther hosted Loras this afternoon for the final home double header of the season. The Duhawks won game one 1-0 and Luther won game two 8-0 in six innings.
In game one, Loras pitcher Ashlyn Hemm held the Norse in check allowing six hits, walking five and striking out seven. The Duhawks manufactured the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth that started with a lead-off walk. The Norse had an opportunity in the seventh but could not score after loadinig the bases.Â
In game two,
Sam Thompson (11-6) tossed a two-hit shutout. Thompson faced 20 batters, did not issue a walk and struck out three. She retired the first 12 batters she faced before giving up a single to right field in the fifth.
The Norse scored a run in the second, four in the third and three in the sixth to secure the win.
Abby Spore hit a grand slam home run in the third and
Alyssa Blankenship hit a pinch hit two-run home run in the sixth. Morgen Hogenson scored the game winner on a wild pitch with two outs.
The split puts Luther in a three-way tie for sixth place in the league standings with Loras and Central with a record of 6-8. The top-six teams will qualify for the A-R-C Tournament that will be held May 5-8. The regular season champion or the No. 1 seed in case of co-champions will host the tournament.
The Norse will wrap up the A-R-C schedule at Simpson College on Sunday, May 1. This twin bill will begin at 1:00 p.m.
