Luther and Central College squared off for an American Rivers Conference double header for senior day today in the valley.The Norse won game one 1-0, while the Dutch won game two 2-0.
In game one,
Kendra Cooper (8-6) threw a three-hit shutout. Cooper faced 26 batters, walked two and struckout five. Only one of the Dutch hits went for extra bases.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Sydney Schultz and
Emily Fell hit back-to-back singles to start the frame. Kyle Heydt followed with a walk to load the bases. Two batters later,
Belle Berg hit a sharp ground ball through the infield to left field that scored Schultz for the game winner. Berg finished the game 3-for-4.
In the nightcap, Dutch pitcher Sydni Huisman kept the Norse bats in check allowing three hits, all coming in the final two frames. At one point she retired 12 in a row.
Offensively, the Dutch spread 12 hits and manufactured a run in both the first and third innings.
The split gives Luther an A-R-C record of 5-7, 18-12 overall. Central is now 6-8 in league play, 18-16 overall.
Luther will host Loras College on Monday, April 25. This double header will begin at 2:00 p.m.
