The Norse softball team snapped a three-game losing streak sweeping UW-Stout 17-0 and 8-0 this afternoon in the valley. Both games were complete after five innings.
In game one,
Kendra Cooper tossed a no-hitter en route to her seventh win of the year. Cooper faced 19 batters, walked four and struck out six.
On the offensive side, the Norse bats produced 15 hits, that led to multiple runs in all four innings.
Abby Spore led the attack driving in four runs while going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Belle Berg was credited with two rbi, while
Emily Versnik,
Anna Forari,
Lara Welter,
Kenna Vavrichek and
Leah Crown all drove in one run.
In the nightcap,
Sam Thompson threw a four-hit shutout en route to her 10th win of the year. Thompson also faced 19 batters, walked one and struck out two.
Spore continued to swing a hot bat driving in three runs going 2-for-3 at the plate. Forari was also credited with three rbi. She hit a two-run home run in the second and drew a bases loaded walk in the third.
Entering the bottom of the fifth, the Norse had a 6-0 lead. Morgan Hoganson hit a two-out home run over the left field fence.
Leah Crown drew a walk and then
Sydney Schultz hit a triple down the left field line that scored Crown to end the ball game.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 17-11. UW-Stout fell to 10-18.
Up next, the Norse will host Central College on Saturday. This double header is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
