Luther hosted Nebraska Wesleyan University this afternoon for its home opener. The Norse swept the double header posting wins of 6-0 and 7-5.
In game one, Luther broke open a scoreless game posting four runs in the third. The Norse added two more in the sixth to secure the victory.
Kendra Cooper went the distance in the circle throwing a three-hit shutout. Cooper faced 27 batters, walked three and struck out eight.
Kyal Heydt led the offensive attack going 2-for-2 and driving in a team high two rbi.
Emily Fell and
Emily Versnik were also credited with driving in a run. Fell finished 2-for-3 and joined Heydt as the only batters to have a multiple hit game.
In the nightcap, the Norse exploded for five runs in the second and added two in the fourth. The Prairie Wolves pulled to within two (7-5) after scoring two in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth frames.
Sam Thompson (8-3) picked up the win in the circle. Thompson allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out one. Cooper took over in the sixth with Luther leading 7-4 and picked up the save. Cooper allowed one run on three hits and struckout two.
Heydt,
Morgan Hogenson and
Anna Dietrich all had rbi doubles during Luther's five-run second inning.
Belle Berg added an rbi in in the same frame with a single that scored
Sophie Wilt who was pinch running for
Abby Spore who led-off the inning with a walk.
In the fourth,
Leah Crown hit a 1-2 pitch over the trees in left field for a two-run home run.
Luther improved to 2-2 in the A-R-C, 13-7 overall.
The Norse will return to action tomorrow, when they will host Coe College at 1:00 p.m.
