Luther and Coe squared off for an American Rivers Conference double header on a warm, but very windy afternoon in the valley. Coe won game one, 7-5 and Luther won game two 7-4.
In game one, Coe led 3-2 after four and added four runs on four hits in the sixth, that proved to be the difference in the outcome. The Norse scored two in both the third and sixth frames.
Abby Spore led the Norse attack driving in two runs.
Sydney Schultz and
Emily Versnik also drove in a run. Both Spore and Schultz were 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, trailing 4-1 entering the bottom half of the fifth, Luther scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to post the come-from-behind victory. In the fifth, Schultz hit a bases loaded double to right center that leveled the score to 4-4. In the sixth,
Belle Berg faced Coe reliever Hannah Ausenhus and took her second pitch over the right field fence for a three-run home run that proved to be the game winner.
Sam Thompson (9-3) went the distance in the circle and allowed four runs on seven hits.
Following the split, both teams are now 3-3 in the A-R-C. Luther is 14-8 overall and Coe is 13-7 overall.
Luther is scheduled to play at UW-Stout on Wednesday, April 13. The non-conference double header will begin at 3:00 p.m.
