It took an extra frame for Luther to secure a 5-4 victory over Benedictine University in game one of two schedule today in Clermont, Florida.

With scored tied at 4-4 at the end of seven. The international tie breaker was used to decide the winner. Both teams had an opportunity to score and started their half of the eighth with a runner on second base.

Sam Thompson, who took over in the circle in the eighth, shut down all three Eagle batters she faced. Sydney Schultz started the bottom of the eighth on second base. Abby Spore laid down a 5-4 sac that advanced Schultz to third. With the count 3-2, Kyal Heydt launched a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Schultz for the game winner.

The win gives Luther an overall record of 9-4. Benedictine fell to 5-2.

Luther will wrap up today's action with a game against Union College this afternoon.
